An interview with Giovanni Manca, Director of the Security and Electronic Signature Monitoring Office, Government of Italy
With the new European regulation relating to digital identity, authentication and signatures (eIDAS COM/238) expected to be enacted next year, we approached Giovanni Manca, one of the leading international experts in the field, to discuss how he thinks it will impact the EU.
Mr. Manca has taken an active role in formulating the upcoming EU Regulation relating to Electronic Identification and Trust Services. The current draft regulation consists of 42 articles and as Mr. Manca notes “is probably the most ambitious legislation project of its kind undertaken by the EU in a decade.” It addresses full seamless interoperability, privacy by design of personal data, harmonization of eIDs, electronic signatures, electronic delivery (Registered Electronic Mail), long-term preservation of electronic documents, and more.
Will European countries accept the new regulation? How will the adoption of standard regulations regarding remote signatures and trusted service providers for digital signatures all over Europe affect the use of digital signatures in various EU countries? Find out the answers to these questions and others.
